2BeeGames Competition

Posted by Nutcasenightmare - September 14th, 2009

For all of you who want your chance at fame, try submitting your game to the 2BeeGames Competition! $10,000 and $5,000 prizes, as well as a console publishing deal if you win. Hurry though, because the Contest Submission Deadline is Sept 15th!

[EDIT: Huh, they shifted it to Oct 15th. Isn't that nice of them?]

----

I just spent about one hour trying to get screenshots from :the game:, and re-edit the huge and cumbersome .fla file in order to remove the advertisements... and then I realized I may have missed out on A ZILLION RULES...

http://www.2beegames.com/site/rules

-Games cannot depict any identifiable people;
(MC Hammer, Rick Astley, Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney, Britney Spears, Al Gore, a bunch of furries, should I go on...?)

-May not contain or refer to any other companies' or product names, brands, trademarks or logos;
(I thought I could get away with removing the Maxgames logo and the ads... and then I noticed many levels hinge on references to DBZ, Microsoft, Tamagotchi, Newgrounds, Nintendo, etc...)

-If your Game incorporates music it must be public domain or yours.
(No. I do not own Never Gonna Give You Up. I so wish I did.)

-Games cannot contain offensive material such as: violent imagery; or be profane, slanderous, disparaging to any person or third party, offensive to good taste; or which visually depicts alcohol or illegal drug use.
(Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. About that.)

------

You get your hopes up and get sacked in the nuts. Basically this is a classic FML moment.

Don't be like me. Read the legalese before you submit, and if you are going to, good luck!

------

Oh and if you don't know HOW BADLY my submission would break these rules, play :the game:

Cool, any tips? Think i might enter, but the rules limit quite a bit of what you can do, it means i gotta come up with my own original idea ;(

Well, Sept 15th... That's tomorrow.

Ouch. It is such a good game, sucks that there are rules >:(

Kinda funny that the very intro of the movie is highly graphic and bloody, breaking another rule XD

that 'competition' turned dirty the last time they did it, i heard some dirty shit going on.

Ouch, really? Thanks for letting me know...

yeah i met the guy running it earlier this summer, he seemed nice but i wouldn't do it if it involves 'publishing deals'. those things could mean anything, anywhere from we get your game and our name on it, and you get little to no royalties or budget.

i would give it a couple more years until they have given 'publishing' deals to any games we hear about in the future

the game: breaks every rule, it has violent imagery; or be profane, slanderous, disparaging to any person or third party, offensive to good taste; or which visually depicts alcohol or illegal drug use.

Geez that sucks. I wish you could have at least been eligable.

I'm sorry about that...
It would have been fun for it to be a real game...
BTW
I'm ProfessorKatz on the forums...

Hey nutcasenightmare! I had a blast playing the game...stopped on an inconvenient spoof but will get to it later. I don't think the gore is too bad (cartoony violence) on this but yeah the rules are there to protect against really crazy and offensive games like bombing the twin towers, racist stuff, extreme gore etc. It's put in the rules for us to legally disqualify something like that.

You can still enter the game or upload it on the site (we now accept games with ads if u want to add mochi to it or something). The worst that can happen is someone may say its too gory but personally I think its fine. Even then, if we disqualified any game, we would contaact the author about it.

@Luis - What turned dirty in our first competition?? a newgrounds game even made the final 10!
Yes, the rules were a little strict beforehand but we got a new legal team to fix it and the competition went well. We helped a game land a nice sponsorship (even though it wasn't with us) and are close to signing some games.

@Starogre, you met me (Tony) or Adam at E3 I presume. Anyways we are just offering the possibility of a publishing deal. The terms would be negotiated with the developer. No one is locked into anything by default. You can even delete your game at any time.
We actually finalized one deal to bring a game to consoles already and are in talks with a few other games. Look for an announcement soon ;)
It works almost like a licensing deal, the developer works alongside us as a consultant throughout the process as we convert the game over to other platforms.
We are going to regularly blog about the progress on the site and give people a peek at the process.

We appreciate your feedback and ideas. We're actually planning on a grand re-opening of the site within the next few months. Please send me an email to Tony@2beegames.com if you have any questions. I don't check my PMs too often. Also, one other thing...the deadline was extended to Oct 15th.

I still think we should trim the rules more..hopefully i can get the lawyers to do so.

-Tony

YES! Thank you so much! October 15th should even be enough time for me to get a beta version of :the game 2: done. (Which is still probably over-the-top crazy-violent.)

I'll be sure to email you some questions later. I think your lawyers / sponsors might still be wary about the possible multiple breaches of copyright law in :the game:.

Thanks for responding!

I need to get to the other levels with all of the good stuff I see... Had to stop playing or else I wouldn't get any work done :x

Hey now the DeadLine is October 15

YOU'RE NOT 15! SHUT UP!

Honestly I see no problem with violence in games and I doubt any users would either.

The only thing that I can see people getting up in arms over is too much profanity and nudity probably or really graphic realistic looking violence like when Kratos tears off heads in GOW3. I'm going to try and get that line trimmed.

Maybe we'll enact a simple ratings system like TIGRS :p

Awww well your game really is iligal in some places. Kudos to you! also can't wait for :the game 2: it better be awesome.

I LOVE YOU

motherfucker! you turned 15 before i turned 14! im not watching any of your shit anymore.

Your :the game: submission is the funniest and one of the best things Ive seen on Newgrounds in quite some time. If you showed the people over there this, Im sure they'll say "Well screw these rules, you get ***** insta win".
